Fully integrated flexible CMOS ISM transceiver

The Challenge

In sub-GHz ISM bands, each region or country uses its own set of frequency bands and, quite often, applies different limitations on their use. In addition, each application uses its own protocol, modulation method and data rate.

In 2002, AnSem began developing a low cost, fully integrated CMOS ISM transceiver chip for application worldwide. 

Result

A fully integrated CMOS 0.35µm transceiver (VCO and loop filter integrated) - a complete single-chip solution for multi-band multi-standard FSK reception and transmission.

The number of external components is kept to a minimum due to complete integration of all the filtering functions in the CMOS chip using an LC-VCO and both active and passive polyphase filtering.

Multi-standard, multi-rate FSK reception is obtained by applying a dedicated demodulator architecture and a direct digital fractional-N synthesizer modulation.

CMOS technology allowed us to build-in a very high level of flexibility and programmability of frequency settings, modulation methods, data rates and power levels.
