  > News - AnSem has started its own product development program   ( 21-7-2003 )

Heverlee, Belgium, July 21, 2003 - AnSem, a provider of analog and mixed-signal design services for wireless communication, high-speed data communication and data acquisition, today announced that it has started its own product development. AnSem recently started developing a short-range, low-power, high sensitivity transceiver chip for wireless ISM applications. The company will start developing two other products in the near future: a transceiver chip for ultra low-power WBAN applications and a high-end Sensor Interface chip. AnSem's products will be developed under a new product development program, named Xpro², targeting IC/IP vendors, system houses and module makers who are looking for a dedicated state-of-the-art chip or silicon IP.

Narrowband ISM transceiver

A single chip ISM transceiver (ANS1502) will be developed. The ANS1502 offers a wireless link for short-range, low-power, low-cost applications in the ISM bands up to 1 GHz.  Unlike other chips on the market, AnSem's ISM transceiver chip offers:

  • high sensitivity, narrow-band operation support for FHSS
  • a user-friendly interface
  • an extremely low bill of materials and
  • advanced power management for extended battery life.

The transceiver is ideally suited for RKE (remote keyless entry), AMR (automatic meter reading), domestic and industrial remote control, as well as other applications.

Ultra low-power WBAN transceiver

A transceiver chip for ultra low power WBAN applications (Wireless Body Area Network) working in the available ISM bands will be developed. This transceiver has a power consumption reduction of a factor of 10 compared with the chips that are available today. A power consumption of only 5mW (for an output power of 0dBm) is the target. The chip is ideally suited to applications in which a very long battery life is a key requirement, such as wireless identification applications and wireless applications for the transmission of vital signs (blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature)

High-end Sensor Interfaces

Microsensor systems for acceleration, rotation, pressure and other signals typically rely on capacitive displacement measurements in microstructures. The signals generated are often weak and noisy and need post-processing by an analog sensor interface chip. A sensor interface chip typically includes analog signal conditioning, analog to digital conversion, digital interfacing, error compensation and calibration of the sensor transfer curve. Possible extensions for the sensor interface chip will be auto-calibration or remote communication to provide a complete transponder system.

The Xpro² program

AnSem has developed the Xpro² program to respond quickly and more effectively to new challenges in today's increasingly competitive environment in which cost reduction, risk sharing and time-to-market are key themes. The program is open to IC/IP vendors, system houses and module makers who wish to obtain a dedicated state-of-the-art chip or silicon IP.

Xpro² members gain access to the AnSem proprietary IP and know-how that forms the basis of the future chip. To obtain more insight into the requirements and functionality needed for the future chip, members are encouraged to share their expertise and actively participate in the definition of the future chip. Xpro² members profit from early access, reduced pricing and a competitive advantage as the chip will easily fit in their applications, leveraging their final product.
