  > News - AnSem develops WBAN solutions as part of the Witness project   ( 3-6-2003 )

Heverlee, Belgium, June 3, 2003 - AnSem, today announced its participation in the Witness project that received the Medea+ label on the 28th of May.  In this project a consortium of companies will work together to realize a common goal in the area of WIreless Technologies for small area Networks with Embedded Safety & Security.

WITNESS, WIreless Technologies for small area Networks with Embedded Safety & Security, aims to develop new techniques for short-range wireless communication using very low power techniques. In addition, extensions to new and existing standards for wireless communication in small area networks will be investigated and developed. Due to the wireless characteristics of the small area networks, a significant risk of interference and data visibility exists. This poses potential problems of both security (secrecy of data) and of safety (data corruption and/or loss of service). These considerations form a key axis in the project.

With its expertise in wireless data communications and low-power low-voltage techniques, AnSem will contribute extensively to the development of an ultra low-power transceiver for WBAN applications.

MEDEA+ is the new industry-initiated pan-European Program for advanced co-operative Research and Development in Microelectronics. MEDEA+ started in January 2001 and focuses on "system innovation on silicon for the e-economy". More info about Medea+: www.medea.org
